How this calculator works
Every percentage problem is one of a few forms. Pick the one that matches your question:
| Question | Formula |
|---|---|
| What is X% of Y? | (X ÷ 100) × Y |
| X is what percent of Y? | (X ÷ Y) × 100 |
| Percent change from X to Y | (Y − X) ÷ |X| × 100 |
| Y increased by X% | Y × (1 + X ÷ 100) |
Example
20% of 150 is 0.20 × 150 = 30. If rent goes from $1,200 to $1,320, the change is ($1,320 − $1,200) ÷ $1,200 × 100 = 10%. And 45 out of 60 questions right is 45 ÷ 60 × 100 = 75%.
