How this calculator works
Price from markup = cost × (1 + markup ÷ 100)
Price from margin = cost ÷ (1 − margin ÷ 100)
Markup is measured against cost. Margin is measured against price. That's why a 50% markup only gives you a 33% margin, and a 50% margin needs a 100% markup.
Example
An item costs $40. A 50% markup gives a price of $40 × 1.5 = $60. To hit a 50% margin instead, price it at $40 ÷ 0.5 = $80.
