If you've been offered $25 an hour, or you're comparing it to a salaried job, you need the yearly number. Here's the math, what it looks like per paycheck, and how it changes when your hours do.

The quick math

A standard full-time year is 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, which is 2,080 hours.

$25 × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $52,000

A handy shortcut for full-time pay: double the hourly rate and add three zeros. $25 doubled is 50, so roughly $50,000. It slightly underestimates because a year has 2,080 hours, not 2,000.

$25 an hour by pay period

Pay period Gross pay at $25/hour
Per year $52,000
Per month (average) $4,333.33
Twice a month (24 paychecks) $2,166.67
Every two weeks (26 paychecks) $2,000
Per week $1,000
Per 8-hour day $200

The monthly figure is an average: $52,000 divided by 12. If you're paid every two weeks, most months you'll get two paychecks of $2,000, and two months a year you'll get three.

When you work more or fewer hours

Your yearly pay moves directly with your hours. This table assumes 52 paid weeks. The 45- and 50-hour rows include overtime at time and a half ($37.50 an hour) for hours over 40, which is how federal law treats covered hourly employees.

Hours per week Weekly pay Yearly pay
20 $500 $26,000
30 $750 $39,000
35 $875 $45,500
40 $1,000 $52,000
45 (5 hours overtime) $1,187.50 $61,750
50 (10 hours overtime) $1,375 $71,500

What if you don't get paid time off?

If you're paid only for the weeks you work, subtract your unpaid weeks. Two unpaid weeks means 50 paid weeks:

$25 × 40 × 50 = $50,000

With four unpaid weeks, it's $48,000. If your job includes paid holidays and vacation, those hours still count toward the full 52 weeks.

$25 an hour after taxes

Your paycheck is smaller than your gross pay because of taxes and deductions. Here's a simplified 2026 estimate for a single filer with no pre-tax deductions, using the standard deduction and no tax credits:

Item Per year
Gross pay $52,000
Federal income tax −$4,060
Social Security (6.2%) −$3,224
Medicare (1.45%) −$754
Take-home before state tax $43,962

That works out to about $3,663 a month or $1,690.85 every two weeks. If your state has an income tax, or you contribute to a 401(k) or pay health premiums through payroll, your take-home will be lower than this.

How the federal income tax line is figured: $52,000 minus the $16,100 standard deduction for single filers in 2026 leaves $35,900 of taxable income. The first $12,400 is taxed at 10% ($1,240) and the remaining $23,500 at 12% ($2,820), for $4,060.

Turning $25 an hour into a monthly budget

Budget from take-home pay, not gross. Using the estimate above, roughly $3,660 a month lands in your account. If you follow the 50/30/20 rule of thumb, that's about:

  • $1,830 for needs like rent, utilities, groceries, and transportation
  • $1,100 for wants
  • $730 for savings and extra debt payments

Those are starting points. Rent alone can take most of the "needs" bucket in many cities, so adjust to your situation.

Common questions

Is $25 an hour full time $52,000 exactly?

Only if you're paid for all 2,080 hours. Unpaid time off, unpaid holidays, or a schedule under 40 hours lowers it. Overtime raises it.

How much is $25 an hour per month?

About $4,333 before taxes on a full-time schedule. That's $52,000 divided by 12.

What salary equals $25 an hour?

A $52,000 salary works out to $25 an hour at 40 hours a week. If the salaried job regularly takes 45 hours a week, its effective hourly rate drops to about $22.22.
