How this calculator works
A budget is income minus spending. Use take-home pay, the amount that actually lands in your account, not your gross salary.
Left over = monthly take-home income − total planned spending
The calculator also compares your plan to the 50/30/20 rule of thumb: about 50% of take-home pay for needs, 30% for wants, and 20% for savings and extra debt payoff. It's a starting point, not a rule. In high-cost areas, needs often take more than half.
Example
With $4,000 of monthly take-home pay and the default expenses entered here, planned spending is $3,800, leaving $200 unassigned. You could move that to savings or keep it as a buffer.
