Passage

Turn on JavaScript to use this calculator. The formula is explained below so you can work it out by hand.

How this calculator works

Type a book, chapter, and verse. The lookup understands full names and common short forms (Gen, Ps, 1 Cor, Phil), whole chapters (Psalm 23), verse ranges (Romans 8:28-39), and ranges that cross chapters (Genesis 1:1-2:3). Separate up to 10 references with semicolons.

The text is the World English Bible (WEB), a modern English translation in the public domain. In the Old Testament, the WEB writes God's name as “Yahweh” where many translations use “the LORD.”

Example

Enter Philippians 4:6-7 to read two verses, Psalm 23 for the whole psalm, or Matthew 5:3-12; Luke 6:20-23 to compare two passages.
